BECOMING REAL (live) at Dot To Dot (29/05/11)

Bank Holiday Sunday 29th May

Dot To Dot Festival 2011

BECOMING REAL

Before grime dominated the UK charts, there was a time when the genre still remained a firmly underground concern, born of frustration and a pure artistic vision. Channelling this early approach is Becoming Real‘s hyper-real form of 'mutant grime'.

Real name Toby Ridler, Becoming Real first started making music in the forgotten suburbs of South London, influenced as much by a conceptual future dystopia as by luminaries Zomby & Mount Eerie. Forging his own deformed take on first wave grime, Becoming Real evokes a sense of dread that conjures images of seas drowned in oil and tar-coated forests.

Over the last few months, Ridler has been featured in the Guardian's 'New Band Of The Day' column, lent UK tour support to 'witch-house' poster children Salem, and provided remixes to folks like Jamie Woon & Forest Swords. Head over to the Tough Love blog for a free download of his remix of Womack & Womack's classic 'Teardrops'.
