XXXY (Ten Thousand Yen)
Over the past year, Manchester-based producer xxxy (pronounced "triple x y") has been quietly refining the propulsive, foot-forward sound of UK Garage, weaving emotive melodies into club-friendly beats.
Xxxy, real name Rupert Taylor, came to our attention with the snaking house of ‘Sing with Us’, featured on Fabric’s Elevator Music compilation, released at the start of 2010, alongside music from Doc Daneeka, Julio Bashmore, Untold, Mosca and more.
This was soon followed by ‘Know You’ and ‘Blue Flashing Lights’:
Know you by xxxy
His biggest release to date dropped at the start of 2011, the double A-side 'You Always Start It' / 'Ordinary Things', which was number five in a five part series of coloured 10" vinyl on Doc Daneeka's 'Ten Thousand Yen'.
Ordinary things by xxxy
Check out his FACT mix, which rolls through gently swinging vocal house and garage, before turning its attention to busier 'UK' cuts (including tracks by WAFA & Canblaster), climaxing on one of the tracks of 2010, Hyetal’s dazzling ‘Phoenix’.
