dollop present...

BENJI B (Deviation / Radio 1)
Benji B is a unique DJ, renowned for his unprecedented selections and distinctive style. Seamlessly drawing from several genres at once; in a single set you’ll hear brand new dubs and classic tunes side by side, the most cutting edge House, Dubstep and Funky tracks, Disco/Soul and Boogie. Headlining at House, Electronic or Hip Hop nights alongside some of the scenes finest artists, his versatility and exceptional selection makes him one of the only DJs to effortlessly play across the board.

Praised as one of the finest tastemakers by fans, producers and DJ’s, Benji is a respected broadcaster, having worked as a producer at Kiss FM before moving to the BBC. In 2002 Benji was invited to host his own show on BBC’s 1Xtra Radio station when the station launched. After 7 years, the weekly show moved to it’s prestigious 3-hour Sunday night slot. Playing a wide selection of brand new underground music, he touches on the genres of Hip Hop, House, Soul, Electronic, Detroit Techno, Dubstep, Boogie, Disco, while inviting his favourite guests to put together a mix for the show or join in the studio for an interview.

Benji B was the natural choice to take over from Mary Anne Hobbs when she decided to bow out of her weekly Radio 1 Dubstep and Electronica show, and since October 2010 he has found his his new home on Radio 1 every Thursday morning at 2-4am. For two hours every week Benji explores future beats, where you can hear him playing the freshest records around alongside guests in the studio such as Ramadanman, Jamie Woon, Toddla T, Flying Lotus, Carl Craig, Zed Bias, Boddika, Jam City & Photek.
With a loyal and diverse global audience, it’s fair to say he boasts one of the most varied and unique tracklistings on British radio today, as well as frequently being the highest rated most played-back shows on BBC Radio iPlayer.

EROL ALKAN
Erol Alkan is our favourite DJ here at dollop HQ, and we are very pleased to be welcoming back to play at our party :)

In his early 20s he founded the most influential clubnight of its time, ‘Trash’ in London, where he played weekly alongside the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons, Bloc Party, Peaches & Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Over the last decade the world’s dancefloors have been rocked by Erol’s remixes (for Klaxons, Hot Chip, Scissor Sisters, Alter Ego, Mylo, Bloc Party, DFA1979, Chemical Brothers & Franz Ferdinand); with Erol being voted Mixmag’s ‘DJ Of The Year’ and ‘Best International Dj’ and even being called up to support both Madonna and Daft Punk!
Erol’s label ‘Phantasy Sound’ has put out tracks from Chilly Gonzales, Riton, Primary 1, Boris Dlugosch & Late Of The Pier; and to date Alkan has acted as album producer for Late Of The Pier, Mystery Jets & The Long Blondes.
More recently he has released his collaborations with Boys Noize ‘Waves/Deathwave’ & ‘Avalanche/Lemonade’ - both of which have been picked up by the world’s top DJs.
Add to this the warped balearic psychedelic brotherhood of ‘Beyond The Wizards Sleeve’ and his work as the mysterious 'Mustapha3000'.
Until you’ve borne witness to one of his legendary DJ sets, poured headily over one of his meticulously crafted productions, or been catapulted to a sudden sonic nirvana by the dropping of one of his remixes, you might be justified for dismissing his existence as an extremely elaborate myth of the musical underground. After all, how can one man, still in his early thirties, have kept so many kids dancing for so long?

FACTORY FLOOR @ dollop (03.12.10)

dollop - Friday 3rd December, 2010

◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇

FACTORY FLOOR (live)
Factory Floor are the latest good band to come out of East London. They play using vintage analogue equipment and tape loops to create abrasive electronic music, layered in feedback, with insistent Krautrock bass lines and obligatory Ian Curtis post-punk vocals. They’re all the best bits of Sonic Youth and Throbbing Gristle, with Giorgio Moroder disco electronics and Kraftwerk beats, an inspired combination.

Stephen Morris of Joy Division/New Order called Factory Floor "Raw, Chaotic, Fantastic and Different" and we couldn’t agree more.

Jimmy Edgar @ dollop (03.12.10)

dollop - Friday 3rd December, 2010

◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇

JIMMY EDGAR (Warp / K7! / Live)
Born in Detroit, Jimmy Edgar began experimenting with electronic music at age 10, and by the age of 15 was DJing alongside the likes of Detroit legends Juan Atkins and Derrick May.

In 2001 at the tender of 18, his hyper-sexed microchip stylings caught the ear of Warp, where he cranked out his brand of amped-up laptop funk for the next eight years, culminating in the full-length classic 'Color Strip'. Now 26, Edgar is shaking things up at German beat boutique !K7.
His recent album "XXX" was released in June 2010 to critical acclaim.

Jimmy is also pretty nifty with a camera. His photography has been shown in Vogue, Dazed, H, Notion, Clash and URB, and his work has been shown in London, NYC & Los Angeles. Jimmy has also shot for such bands as Hercules Love Affair, Her Bad Habit, Kelley Polar, Plus Device, Steve Mason/King Biscuit Time/Black Affair, Pretty Positive, Dead on TV, Kava Kon, Theophilus London, Machinedrum and more. For more info on Jimmy's photography check out jimmyedgarphotography.com

MOUNT KIMBIE (live) @ Stealth

Get your diaries out - Mount Kimbie will be playing live at Stealth Vs Rescued on Saturday October 9th.

We highly recommend their recent mix for XLR8TR, containing their own tracks alongside the likes of James Blake, Pangaea, Zomby & Untold.

Here is the video for the lead single 'Would Know':

GASLAMP KILLER & COMMIX!! Easter Sunday Bass Special @ Stealth!!

EASTER SUNDAY 4th April. 10pm - late
with...

THE GASLAMP KILLER

(Brainfeeder/Warp/LA)

Part of Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder collective, The Gaslamp Killer is renown for his energetic DJ sets, and infectious, totally unique character. A founder of LA’s acclaimed weekly Low End Theory club, the GLK’s lateral crate-digging through dusty psychedelia, classic hip hop, cutting edge beats and heavy dubstep is unparalleled. With the spirit of the West Coast psychedelic movement of the 60s and the current manifestation of the beat generation running strong in his blood, the GLK will lay waste to Stealth Sunday 4th April!!

COMMIX
(Hospital Records/Metalheadz/Good Looking)

Informed by the likes of Doc Scott and Fabio, a Commix DJ set has always been about smooth, rolling mixes, a continual flow – rather than the high-energy, high impact histrionics many D&B DJs have fallen into and it is the sounds and the techniques of the house and techno that have had the biggest impact on the guys!! Fusing minimal techno undertones and deep Philly Soul flavas woven around crystal clear drum and bass rhythms to create a diverse and compelling experience!!
