PHAELEH (Disfigured Dubs) at Stealth (06/05/11)

Friday 6th May, 2011

PHAELEH (Disfigured Dubs / Wheel & Deal) ★
Phaeleh – pronounced “Fella”
In 2006, classically trained musician and electronic sound scientist Matt Preston was swept up in the wake of the Dubstep phenomenon. His diverse influences resulted in an equally diverse musical output, ranging from the euphoric heights of Nordic electronica through cinematic breakbeat to the depth charges of Dubstep.

Phaeleh - Outlook Mix by outlookfestival

Phaeleh’s unique sound has garnered support from the scene’s leading artists, including Skream, N-Type, Scuba, Distance, Kryptic Minds, Oris Jay, RSD and Jakes to name but a few, as well as radio support on BBC Radio 1, BBC Asian Network, BBC 6 Music and Kiss FM. This has helped Phaeleh to top the sales charts with releases on Surface Tension, Against the Grain & Urban Scrumping as well as recent releases on Skream’s Disfigured Dubz, N-Type’s Wheel & Deal Records and label of the moment Black Box.

D1 (Dub Police/Tempa) @ Girls Go Free (04/02/11)

Friday 4th February

► ► Girls Go Free @ Stealth ► ►

D1 (Dub Police/Tempa) ★

"Is D1 the most underrated dance producer in the UK? He’s certainly up there" - Fact Magazine

D1 cemented his place in dubstep’s history with a series of releases in the genre’s DMZ and Tempa dominated half-step days, with his productions featuring on the Dubstep Allstars Mix CDs (by Youngsta, Hatcha, Kode 9, N-Type, Chef & Ramadanman), the Rinse FM Mix CDs (by Skream, Spyro & Geeneus) and Caspa & Rusko's Fabriclive CD. D1's release schedule isn’t prolific, but when the 12″s drop they matter.

In 2010 he returned with a 12” for Caspa’s Dub Police label, which featured 'Jus Business’ and the brilliantly named ‘Pitcher’ (which gained support from everyone from Jack Beats to N-Type).

D1 also wrote and produced Caspa's massive hit 'Back For The First Time' (which was later vocaled Mr Hudson recieving a mountian of daytime Radio 1 plays)!

CASPA & D1 - BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME

Remixes for the likes of Buraka Som Sistema have followed, and keep your eyes peeled for a double a-side Dub Police 12" dropping in Feb - featuring the track 'Flood Of Emotions' featuring Jenna G and 'Bleeps To Broadway'.

D1 continues to push his sound forward and evolve with each and every release, and never fails to surprise! Judging on the pure quality of his recent tracks, 2011 is set to be a big year for D1.

Check out D1's mix for FACT magazine (which includes his own tracks, remixes, bootlegs and dubplates alongside the likes of Caspa, Emalkay, Subscape, The Others & Benga):

D DOUBLE E (Newham Generals) @ Girls Go Free

Friday 4th February

► ► Girls Go Free @ Stealth ► ►

D DOUBLE E (Newham Generals/Dirtee Stank/Rinse FM) ★

"Oh My Gosh... It's D Double!!!"

D Double E is one of the grime scene's most loved MCs, known for his distinctive flow and style.
Starting out as a member of the 187 Crew (alongside previous GGF Guest Jammer), D Double was soon invited by former school friends to join the infamous 'Nasty Crew' (alongside the likes of Kano & Marcus Nasty).
2004 saw collaborations with The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Shola Ama, Kano, and not forgetting his feature on Lethal Bizzle’s Club Smash “Pow”, shooting straight in at number 11 in the UK charts.

In 2005, Double’s time with NASTY came to an end and along with fellow former member Footsie he formed the group Newham Generals, who were immediately signed to Dizzee Rascal’s label, Dirtee Stank Recordings. A world tour with Dizzee soon followed (including a show at Stealth in November '05), as well as the duo hosting a weekly slot on Rinse FM.

More recently D Double E has gained acclaim due to the Breakage produced collaboration 'Hard', and his 2010 solo smash 'Street Fighter Riddim'.

The last 12 months has seen D Double guest on the remix of P Money's anthem 'Slang Like This', and also jump on the massive 'Woo Riddim' ('Bad To The Bone') aswell as releasing the 'Bag Of Grease' EP featuring 'Like It Or Not'.

D Double E’s debut EP “Bluku! Bluku!” is scheduled for a 2011 release on Dirtee Stank Recordings.

LIL SILVA (NIGHT SUGS)
http://www.myspace.com/djlilsilva
19-year-old Lil Silva is fast becoming one of the most talked about artists on the UK Funky scene. Not only does he possess the musical understanding to work with genres such as American House, Funky and Grime but his ability also allows him to merge and blend styles. Silva’s flair manifests itself in his creative production techniques, showcasing a distinct sound which he looks to continually evolve. Always looking to shy away from convention, the young producer’s talents are becoming as renowned for their innovation as they are for the effect they are having on the scene. Prominent cultural magazine factmag.com has even gone as far as describing Lil Silva’s sound as 'grime in disguise.'
Having gained initial exposure via Marcus Nasty, pioneer of the UK funky house scene, Lil Silva's track Different featured on the Ministry of Sound's 2009 compilation, 'The Sound of UK Funky.'

In recent months his fresh sound has been put to use on a much needed remix of Sidney Samson’s No. 1 hit Riverside, which received significant airplay from the likes of Annie Mac and Mista Jam.

As well as working on a track with Ms Dynamite, 2010 will also see the release of Lil Silva’s debut E.P. which goes by the working title of 'Horrible'. "I want producers and artists within the scene to help set a standard, especially when it comes to production - I’d like to see people experimenting with different sounds, instruments and programs. This way the music would appeal to a wider audience."

And with tunes such as Funky Flex and Seasons pushing his individual sound, Lil Silva may be moving out of Bedford sooner than he thinks.

You'll most likely have heard perhaps his biggest tune yet 'Different':

Here is JOY ORBISON playing it @ Stealth last November!!

STENCHMAN - Friday 30th April

This Friday we are looking forward to welcoming back everyone's favourite mask-wearing Dubstep producer - the one and only Stenchman!

In advance of his show at Girls Go Free we grabbed a couple of quick questions with the mysterious man:

What have you been up to since your last show at Stealth ?
Trying my hand at knitting, and placed 3rd in the UK national lawn bowling championships for my local team. I have also been doing some volunteer work down at my local parish of a Sunday.
This Friday you play at ‘Girls Go Free’ - what is the best thing you have ever got free?
Well i just managed to free a small gnome from my rectum which was quite a relief, so I'd have to say that.
If you were on a desert island and you can only take 3 items what would you take and why?
A helicopter so i could get off it when i wanted,
Plenty of 'supplies' and
The entire discography of Seal
If you weren’t a producer/dj what would you do with your life?
Probably amount to nothing just like my teachers told me. Oh how I'd love to see them now and gloat that i earn more than them.
What is your favourite flavour of crisps?
Caramelised turnip and shoelace
If you could have any super-power what would you have?
Invisible flying powers. So i could rape seagulls in mid air.
If you were on Mastermind what would be your specialist subject?
The mating habits of fat bitches.
What did you want to be when you were 12 years old?
Either a dj or a food / video game tester. Glad i stuck with the former.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?
Megan Fox - because i spend most of my time naked playing with myself.
'Girls Go Free' kicks off this Friday at 10pm. GIRLS - write your names on the Facebook Event Wall for free entry (before Midnight) & GUYS - write your names on the Facebook Event Wall for £3 entry (before Midnight)!!!
More info : Girls Go Free Facebook Event.
& don't forget to join the 'GIRLS GO FREE' GROUP for news of upcoming events!

ROSKA (Rinse FM) @ GIRLS GO FREE (02/04/10)

On Friday April 2nd we are pleased to welcome back ROSKA for a GIRLS GO FREE event, where you can expect to hear the freshest House, UK Funky, Garage & Dubstep.

A former MC, Roska made a name for himself in the UK Funky explosion of 2008, and his ‘Climate Change’ and ‘Elevated Levels’ EPs are scene classics. Along with Geeneus, Cooly G and Lil Silva, he’s one of the few from the Funky scene to make an impact abroad – magazines like XLR8R and The Fader have been all over the South Londoner for a while now and with his debut album set to drop on Rinse soon he's no doubt going to be getting a whole lot more attention!!

Check out this awesome video teaser for his forthcoming track Squark:

Also on the night we have a Nottingham debut from MOSCA (Night Slugs/Fabric). Sub FM regular Mosca is best known for ‘Square One’, a UK House anthem that takes in tribal percussion, Karizma’s horns, the longing bass of Joy Orbison, cut-up R’n'B and patois samples – so basically everything good in music ever – and gets played out by Kode 9, Shortstuff and more. But that’s only half the story: check new productions like ‘Gold Bricks, I See You’ and you’ll realise that you’re dealing with one of UK music’s brightest young stars.

Support comes from Littlefoot & GIRLS GO FREE Resident, DJ Snigger.

Check out the Facebook Event for Guestlist info.
GIRLS - ADD your names to the event wall for FREE GUESTLIST before midnight.
BOYS - ADD your names on the event wall for £3 entry before midnight. *
*(Or any boys who are fans of the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act - put your name on the event wall and come dressed (convincingly) as a girl and get in FREE before Midnight!)

Previous GIRLS GO FREE Guests have included SBTRKT, SCUBA, COOLY G & GEMMY - and if that sounds like your kind of thing don't forget to join the GIRLS GO FREE Facebook Group.

SBTRKT (XL / Salvia / Planet Mu) @ GIRLS GO FREE

Friday 24th July, 2009 @ Stealth

SBTRKT (XL / Salvia / Planet Mu)

We’ve been big admirers of London’s anonymous SBTRKT (prononced subtract) for a while now and that love’s shared by the gaggle of labels hurling offers in his general direction. Confirmed releases come through Planet Mu, Salvia/XL, Brainmath and Universal soon enough and he's grabbed the attention of peeps like Sinden, Mary Anne Hobbs, Alexander Nut and Blackdown all supporting his music which ranges from deep dubstep to rolling garage to hands-in-the-air bliss-house to bolshy jungle bootlegs!! All about taking the bounce, extra double-time rhythms and not being too dark & serious about everything.

Like our past two parties with Gemmy & Cooly G this is a Nottingham & Stealth debut so we're well, well happy have him play at our 3rd GIRLS GO FREE PARTY!! After this night we're taking a break till laters in the year so don't miss out!!!
