The mighty DJ ZINC will be filling midnight slot upstairs in Stealth, playing his trademark 'Crack House' sound.

Starting out in the world of Jungle and Drum & Bass, DJ Zinc (as part or True Playaz & Ganja Kru) produced some of the all-time classics of the genres - including 'Fugees Or Not' or 'Super Sharp Shooter', before slowing down his tempo to the 130s - hitting the chart in 2000 with the garage anthem '138 Trek'.

Zinc continued producing D&B until 2007, when he became disenchanted by the lack of originality within the scene and decided to take some time out to consider the musical direction he should follow in his career. In 2008 he returned, playing a hybrid of house sounds - from deep house to UK Funky house to fidget house, and was soon producing something that did not fit into any of these sub-genres. He later named his new sound Crack House.

He dropped his first 'Crack House' mixes in late 2008 & early 2009.

After releasing his first 'Crack House EP', the buzz started to build on a new track 'Blunt Edge' which featured on his January 09 mix. After an initial low-key release the song was re-released with a vocal from Ms Dynamite under the new title 'Wile Out', gaining daytime radio play and once again hitting the charts.

Since 'Wile Out' Zinc has also had success producing for Katy B - including her track 'Louder':

And with the release of 'Crack House EP 2' Zinc's track 'Nexx' became one of the biggest dancefloor tracks of 2010.

Chase & Status headline the Rock City main hall bringing in the New Year with an exclusive midnight set. 2010 has been massive for these guys and with a sell out UK tour and several top 10 singles under their belt they’re due to drop their 2nd album in January 2011. Danny Byrd also plays Rock City after a string of massive singles and his recent ‘Rave Digger’ LP on Hospital. Goldie’s love of Rock City dates back to his breaking days as a young graff artist. The multi talented Metalheadz boss will be keeping it strictly Drum & Bass this NYE. DJ Friction will be providing one of his legendary 3 deck sets, and Shy FX will be showing why his renowned as one of the best party DJ’s around. Dutch D&B exports Black Sun Empire round off the Rock City line up.

Upstairs in Stealth features the finest in House & Techno courtesy of Fake Blood who is capping off his biggest year yet with a headline slot, alongside 'Crackhouse' superstar DJ Zinc and new signings to Trouble & Bass – the mighty Tomb Crew!

Benga headlines the Rescue Rooms with guests including Scratch Perverts, Mistajam and Instra:mental alongside a 2hr set from himself with Pokes and Youngman MC hosting. Having been on road with his live act Magnetic Man for the last couple of months, he's keen to get back on the decks, and this one of only 2 gigs he’ll be doing this NYE.

Basslaced host the dubstep arena with Nottingham favourite and Rinse FM representative Plastician bringing in the new year. Also playing is his Rinse FM colleagues N-Type and Youngsta. Emalkay is on the verge of releasing his debut LP with Zane Lowe debuting the first single last week – he’ll be playing cuts from his new album. Cult and Mimm clash with a line up representing some of the hottest producers in bass music and the deeper end of D&B. Doc Daneeka and XXXY represent Mimm, whilst Alix Perez, Spectrasoul and subtitles new boys Ulterior Motive roll out the darker side of D&B.

The guys from Twisted Hearts Club are hosting the lower room of Stealth – turning the space into 'Toybox' the magical wonderland, which features DJ Mag coverstars Hot City alongside Toybox residents and local talent Lost Boyz Djs.

FACTORY FLOOR @ dollop (03.12.10)

dollop - Friday 3rd December, 2010

◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇

FACTORY FLOOR (live)
Factory Floor are the latest good band to come out of East London. They play using vintage analogue equipment and tape loops to create abrasive electronic music, layered in feedback, with insistent Krautrock bass lines and obligatory Ian Curtis post-punk vocals. They’re all the best bits of Sonic Youth and Throbbing Gristle, with Giorgio Moroder disco electronics and Kraftwerk beats, an inspired combination.

Stephen Morris of Joy Division/New Order called Factory Floor "Raw, Chaotic, Fantastic and Different" and we couldn’t agree more.

DJ MEHDI (Ed Banger) Interview

In advance of tonight's show at dollop we have managed to grab a few words with Parisian DJ superstar - DJ MEHDI.

After working as a hip-hop producer with the likes of MC Solaar, Asian Dub Foundation and Futura 3000, DJ Mehdi joined forces with Pedro 'Busy P' Winter in 1997, hosting a very successful monthly hip-hop / electro club night at former Paris nightspot Pulp.

This friendship resulted in Busy P signing Mehdi up to his Ed Banger label, culmating in the release of the 'Lucky Boy' LP in 2006. The album featured the classic tracks 'Signatune' (which was re-edited by Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter) and 'I Am Somebody' (featuring Chromeo).

More recently, Dj Mehdi has been part of a group of friends and DJ's collectively known as Club 75 which includes Cassius, Busy P and Xavier de Ronsay (Justice).

Where are you now?
In my house, in my bed.
What is your favourite city?
Paris, then NYC, then London.

What was the first record you bought?
Public Enemy - 'It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back'

When/ where/ how did you start dj’ing & producing?
In my bedroom, when I was 11 years old. How, it's a quite long story but my father, my uncles, my cousins, and a few street hustlers from my neighbourhood all had their importance.

How many records are in your collection?
5000 vinyls and maybe 15000 mp3's.

What is your favourite album ever?
Public Enemy - 'It Take A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back'

Who is your role model?
Jerry Seinfeld.

What is your preferred production and dj set up?
It's just me and my guitar.

What do you never leave the house without?
My pants.

What do you get up to when you are not busy with music?
Jumping up and down on the bed with my son.

What tracks are you currently working on?
'Let The Children Techno' compilation with Busy P.

What has been your personal musical highlight of 2010 so far?
The first time I heard 'Over' by Drake, in February.

What upcoming acts do you think could breakthrough in 2011?
Gesafelstein.

DJ Mehdi performs at dollop tonight as Carte Blanche (alongside his partner in crime Riton).

Tickets are available here.
