Stealth Vs Rescued present...


BOOGALOO CREW
The Boogaloo Crew, hailing from South London, first became involved in the dance music world through the creation of their monthly club night Stick Up Kids. Their DJ sets were and still very much are made up of Hip Hop, House, Baltimore Club, Dubstep and many wacky sub genres. They quickly gained recognition and were invited to become residents at London’s Trouble Vision club night, which has allowed them to play a long side world renowned DJs such as Rusko, Herve, South Rakkas Crew, Mary Anne Hobbs, Joker, Toddla T, DJ Zinc and many others.

The crew’s attention then soon focused on the production of their own music, with varying styles that spread across many genres. With ongoing creative collaborations with other artists plus their own new material, soon to be released, there is still a lot more to come from these guys.

MATT TOLFREY (LEFTROOM/COCOON) INTERVIEW

After three massive nights (with Andrew Weatherall, Hector, Ivan Smagghe, Tim Green & Jamie Jones), this Friday sees the fourth installment of Zleep - where MATT TOLFREY will be playing alongside SIMON BAKER at ZLEEP 004.


As a self-proclaimed workaholic, Matt Tolfrey has spent the last few years forging a unique sound through his DJ sets and production and has somehow still found time to create and nurture one of the UK’s most respected, not to mention cutting edge house/techno labels in Leftroom. Matt has been ever present at Stealth since its inception several years ago. We put some questions to him.


What have you been working on recently Matt?

Recently it has been my tan and getting fat in USA. Music wise there is tons on, and never enough time to do it…

I just finished a new remix solo for a new British label called Kaluki from Manchester by a guy called Joseph Kindred. Really happy with it, and seeing as it is only the second remix I have ever done on my own it has inspired me to produce more again.

Chris and I have remixes pending on Rekids of James Teej and Cityfox of Lee Curtiss. We’re also working really hard on our debut album, which we’re hoping to have finished by the end of the year.

Can you tell us what we can look forward to from your Leftroom label in the coming months?

We are promoing Left019 at the moment, which is by Eric Johnston a newish comer from Detroit. It comes with a remix from Ryan Elliot also. After that we have a big 20th release with tracks coming from all the Leftroom crew. 6Six tracks in total, four on vinyl and two digital exclusives. Then on Leftroom Limited we have an ep by iO and Westboy called With Love from Ukraine, then next up after that is an ep by London’s Jozif. Then the Left’d002 (Leftroom’s new digital label) is about to drop and we have various artist ep’s from then on every 4-6 weeks. We’re really busy with the label at the moment, we just changed distributors and took on Leon Oakey as our new label manager. After such a long time not putting out many releases, we have got everything in line again and are ready to take over!!!

Technology has always played a key role in the evolution of house and techno. Do you think that this influence has become less important in recent years as producers have tended to look back for inspiration?

The idea of only playing promo’s is totally gone now. I play as much old music as new, so this has definitely changed. Technology wise it’s only human to always evolve and get better, faster, more efficient, etc… Producers have always looked to the past for inspiration, it’s all based on disco in the end isn’t it…

Who would be your singularly most important influence on your production work?

To be honest we try and not be influenced too much when it comes to production as we’re trying so hard to forge our own sound. But a producer I have a lot of respect for and who is getting insanely good at the moment is Lee Curtiss. He just finished a track that got signed to Culprit in LA that has me doing vocals on it, and if he can make me sound like I can actually sing, he can do anything…

You’ve played all over the world, where do the clubbers most connect with what you are trying to communicate in your DJ sets? Why do you think that is?

I am lucky as I feel I make a connection with all the people I play for. It is in my personality anyway, I get on with most people if not all, so I think comes through in my dj style. I’m not one of these dj’s that thinks I am educating people or anything like that. I just play what I would want to hear if I was on the dancefloor myself, which I still do a lot as well, everyone loves a good party and supporting people!

Your role model?

Mum. She is the toughest cookie on the planet and inspires me a lot. She has just beaten cancer and my world revolves around her. I’m a big mummies boy at heart.

This is always hard to do as there is a lot more than 5 records that I am buzzing off at the moment, but here we go, in no particular order…

BOYS NOIZE this Friday at dollop's 6th Birthday !!!

This Friday sees the 6th Birthday of dollop - and to celebrate they have called in the mighty BOYS NOIZE to headline their party alongside the likes of JD Twitch (Optimo), 16Bit, Riotous Rockers, Tomb Crew, Alvin C, and dollop resident D'lex.


Over the past 6 years dollop have been regularly putting on the hottest dance acts - with their previous Stealth events featuring the likes of Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Claude VonStroke, Simian Mobile Disco, Carl Craig, Kissy Sell Out, Digitalism, A-Trak, Friendly Fires (live), Fake Blood, Jack Beats, Late Of The Pier (live), Buraka Som Sistema & many more.


Alex ‘Boys Noize’ Ridha has released records on French label Kitsuné Music, Tiga’s Turbo Recordings label, DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo, Erol Alkan’s ‘Phantasy Sound’ & his own ‘Boys Noize’ Records.



He has remixed tracks for Tiga, Chromeo, A-Trak, Para One, Justice, Feist, Depeche Mode, Bloc Party, Siriusmo, Kaiser Chiefs, Gonzales & Snoop Dogg.
Ridha has also released EPs under the names 909d1sco, Kid Alex & PUZIQUe; produced a song for the Black Eyed Peas (‘Let The Beat Rock’); and has collaborated with Erol Alkan, putting out 2 maxi-singles, "Death Suite" / "Waves" and "Lemonade" / "Avalanche".



Boys Noize released his debut album “Oi Oi Oi” in 2007, featuring the classic tracks ‘Don’t Believe The Hype’, ‘Lava Lava’, Oh!, ‘Shine Shine’ and ‘& Down’ (which has also been featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, and was also used as a sample for Estelle’s single American Boy).
After a 2-year hiatus, Boys Noize's second studio album, entitled Power, was released to critical acclaim at the end of last year, recently being re-released featuring remixes from Mr Oizo, Djedjotronic, Tiga, Untold, Boris Dlugosch & Modeselektor.



As record label manager for ‘Boys Noize’ records, he has been discovered some of the hottest names on the scene, including Tiga, Proxy, Brodinski, Shadow Dancer, D.I.M, Feadz, Tensnake, Mixhell & Jan Driver.

And as a DJ Boys Noize reguarly headlines the biggest events & Festivals in the world – with sets coming up at Glastonbury, Exit, Benicassim, Fuji Rock, Sasquatch, Pukkelpop, SW4 & I Love Techno.

BORGORE @ Stealth Vs Rescued (May 22nd)

This Saturday we welcome one of the most controversial names in Dubstep to Stealth Vs Rescued - BORGORE!

Borgore’s unique sounds of Dubstep, Rock and Hip Hop have inspired him to come up with his Gorestep sound. He isn’t trying to create his own genre, he is just doing what he loves best and mixing up all these sounds up into one big head fuck with a large dose of bass. Hailing from the land of Israel, Borgore is taking over the globe with his DJ gigs and tracks, selling out shows wherever he goes. Of course when you do something new and different people are quick to hate, hence the name of his most recent release, ‘BORGORE RUINED DUBSTEP’.

His tracks have recently been getting supported by the likes of Annie Mac, Busy P, Rusko, Mary Anne Hobbs & Diplo, who has signed some of his tracks and remixes to his Mad Decent label!

His tracks have had over a million views on Youtube and his Facebook Page is a hive of activity with over 27,000 fans!

Jamie Jones @ Zleep (Friday 21st May)

This Friday at Stealth sees the third installment of Nottingham's freshest Minimal House & Underground Techno night, Zleep.

After bringing the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Hector, Tim Green & Ivan Smagghe to Stealth, Zleep are welcoming back the man who picked up awards for BEST PRODUCER' & 'BEST SINGLE' at the 2009 DJ Mag awards - the Welsh wonder JAMIE JONES.

Jamie Jones has achieved in the space of a few short years what many producers try for in a lifetime. Turning his hand to a variety of styles while still maintaining a strong signature sound, Jones has created an admired musical identity and a loyal global following.

One of techno’s rising stars, Jamie Jones is part of a new guard of house and techno djs who resonate as artists, party people, djs, and live acts. Raised in Wales, Jamie’s university days in London helped launch his infatuation with club culture that would bring him to Ibiza during the summers. Ultimately relationships forged during those island summers helped Jamie become an integral cog in thriving music scenes of Ibiza and later East London, where Jones’s bustling djscandance warehouse parties and regular gigs at Fabric helped make his mark in London during the winters.



During the summers, gigs and residencies like the Space Terrace, Manumission’s Music Box Room, and later DC10 (a club he frequented as one of the original regulars in his early days on the island) helped him gain a foothold in the Ibiza Scene while defining a sound that was uniquely electronic, soulful, and bouncy, with a consistent groove. During one of these summers in Ibiza, he played his long in the works creation Amazon to Freak n’ Chic boss Dan Ghenacia who signed it on the spot.



Amazon, when released, was well received and immediately drew Jones favorable comparisons to luminaries like Mathew Jonson and Carl Craig and went on to become the labels biggest selling record. Jamie followed that standout release with recordings on leading labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Cocoon, Poker Flat and far too many more to mention.

SINDEN has really made a name for himself since playing his first set at dollop in 2006, and we’re delighted to welcome him back for our May party alongside our favourite party-starters TOMB CREW!

As official tour DJ for the likes of BASEMENT JAXX & MIA, SINDEN regularly criss-crosses the globe, enjoying exposure to multiple musical genres - from Funk Carioca to Baltimore Club, Hip-Hop to Miami Bass, Grime to Global Rhythms and Dancehall to Kuduro. Producing a unique and exciting fusion of these has kept SINDEN ahead of the game as musical boundaries become increasingly blurred, breaking cutting edge new genres whether it be dubstep, tropical or funky.

In 2006 he made the transition from the booth to the studio and alongside Dave ‘SWITCH’ Taylor, produced his first batch of remixes, combining his varied international influences with his love for the UK-based genres of Electro, Drum & Bass, House, Jungle & Grime. Around the same time Sinden was offered a weekly show on groundbreaking radio station Kiss FM, where his eclectic mix of the best new music around still plays every Wednesday night, cementing his reputation as a beat connoisseur of the highest order.


Sinden has produced massive remixes for acts such as Chromeo, Miike Snow, A-Trak, Mark Ronson, Toddla T, Robbie Williams, Bjork, Buraka Som Sistema, Santigold, and Mr Hudson. He has also produced tracks alongside Jesse Rose, Switch, SBTRKT and Trevor Loveys and pitched in on the ‘Machines Don’t Care’ project with artists including Drop The Lime, Detboi & Fake Blood. However his biggest success has been as one half of The Count & Sinden, who have been championed by a veritable Who’s Who of top international DJs and producers. Their 2008 single ‘Beeper’ was an instant, crossover club smash, and the subsequent singles ‘Hardcore Girls’ and ‘Mega’ also topped the charts. The Count and Sinden album has been a long time coming, but we hear it’s finally set for release this summer.

If all that’s not enough, SINDEN tops up his frenetic schedule by running two clubnights - ‘Get Familiar’ and ‘MegaMegaMega’ - and writing a regular column for DJ Magazine. He’s also just launched his own label, ‘Grizzly’, which has a release scheduled that includes Brodinski, SBTRKT and a Basement Jaxx solo project. Fresh from a US tour where he killed it at parties like Trouble & Bass, and prior to a tour of Europe, SINDEN’S forthcoming appearance at dollop is one not to be missed!

AC Slater (Trouble & Bass) @ Stealth Vs Rescued

This Saturday we are pleased to welcome back one of the world's most sought after remixers and producers, (and officially the best DJ ever named after a character from Saved By The Bell) - Trouble and Bass star AC SLATER!

Raised on 90's Hip-Hop and nourished by old school rave, AC has cultivated these influences to give birth to his own style of music production.

One of the top blogged dance artists in the world (see the Hype Machine chart), AC's tracks can be frequently heard on radio stations worldwide. His army of world class supporters include Moby, Armand Van Helden, Crookers, Diplo, Laidback Luke and Drop The Lime.

Part of the infamous Brooklyn based Trouble and Bass label and DJ crew, AC is constantly touring globally leaving a wobbly wake of ecstatic crowds and loyal supporters.

In the first half of 2010 AC released his debut single "Take You" on Trouble and Bass, which will be followed by the eagerly anticipated "Calm Down Trilogy EP". Also watch out for his collaboration with Drop The Lime entitled "Slater and Lime".

JAMES ZABIELA tonight at Stealth !!!

After a massive bank holiday at Stealth we are all set for the weekend - and we are celebrating in style by welcoming back the one-and-only JAMES ZABIELA!


James Zabiela is just 30 years old, but is well on his way to achieving superstar DJ status. Chalk it up to the fact that the preternaturally gifted mixer and producer already boasts almost ten years as a pro. Since his earliest days winning bedroom DJ competitions, Zabiela has continued to develop the art of the mix, bringing a bit of technical flash to the often by-the-books realm of four-to-the-floor. From the get-go, he has never been shy about cutting, scratching, and flipping the records he uses as his base, filtering it all through loops and effects until the final product barely resembles the original track. In other words, you will never find James Zabiela just hitting play on a MacBook.

This Friday we are looking forward to welcoming back everyone's favourite mask-wearing Dubstep producer - the one and only Stenchman!

In advance of his show at Girls Go Free we grabbed a couple of quick questions with the mysterious man:

What have you been up to since your last show at Stealth ?

Trying my hand at knitting, and placed 3rd in the UK national lawn bowling championships for my local team. I have also been doing some volunteer work down at my local parish of a Sunday.

This Friday you play at ‘Girls Go Free’ - what is the best thing you have ever got free?

Well i just managed to free a small gnome from my rectum which was quite a relief, so I'd have to say that.

If you were on a desert island and you can only take 3 items what would you take and why?

A helicopter so i could get off it when i wanted,
Plenty of 'supplies' and
The entire discography of Seal

If you weren’t a producer/dj what would you do with your life?

Probably amount to nothing just like my teachers told me. Oh how I'd love to see them now and gloat that i earn more than them.

What is your favourite flavour of crisps?

Caramelised turnip and shoelace

If you could have any super-power what would you have?

Invisible flying powers. So i could rape seagulls in mid air.

If you were on Mastermind what would be your specialist subject?

The mating habits of fat bitches.

What did you want to be when you were 12 years old?

Either a dj or a food / video game tester. Glad i stuck with the former.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Megan Fox - because i spend most of my time naked playing with myself.

DAVE CONGREVE Interview - Stealth 6th Brithday

Dave Congreve has been a resident at Stealth since it opened 6 years ago. He also produces for labels such as Soma & Rotters Golf Club. We caught up with him ahead of the 6th Birthday Party this Friday...

How long ago did you start djing & producing?

I started Djing in about '94. I found my groove and started playing regularly about 2 years later. Producing started around 2003, Soma released my 1st record in 2005.

What was the first record you ever bought?

It was 'Ghost Town' by The Specials on 7 inch single.

And what was the last record you bought?

Live Jam records Vol 3.

Who were your main inspirations that got you into djing & production?

Acid house and techno mainly from Chicago and Detroit.

How many records are in your collection?

I stopped counting a long time ago, but I reckon about 20,000+.

What are your 3 most played tracks at the moment?

Pional 'A Moot Point' (Basic Soul Unit mix).
Deetron feat. Seth Troxler 'Each Step'.
Motorcity revisited ( Dan Bell mix)....an old favourite!!

What do you do when you are not djing / producing?

Sleep, go to gigs and exhibitions.

If you could pick 3 Dj's (past or present) to play at your party who would you pick?

I blew out 6 candles and then ate the cake.

Stealth is 6 years old this Friday. What did you do on your 6th birthday?

Andrew Weatherall, Steve Bug, Cassy. Ron Hardy, Zip and Villalobos would play the after party.

What 5 tracks stand out as your favorites from your sets at Stealth (over the last 6 years)?

I really couldn't narrow it down to 5, so I'm going to cheat and say most things… Carl Craig, Ost-gut-ton, Radioslave / Rekids, Matthew Dear / Spectral, Innervisions, Smith 'n' Hack, Steve Bug / Pokerflat related and anything in-between.

What has been your favourite night at Stealth (over the last 6 years)?

Any night where people refuse to leave at end, although recently playing Back 2 Back with Tim Green for over 5 hours, though don't ask me what we played in the last 2, and Weatherall at the 1st Zleep Party.

What has been your funniest moment in Stealth?

Being picked up, squeezed and carried around the DJ booth by Derrick Carter, whilst still trying to mix!
