REDLIGHT at Stealth (11/02/11)

Friday 11th February, 2011

BASSLACED present...

REDLIGHT (Digital Soundboy / MTA Records)
Originally best known for his drum’n’bass productions as DJ Clipz for labels like Full Cycle and Audio Zoo, Redlight is the alter-ego of Bristolian Hugh Pescod, which he’s used to explore an individual vision of bass music where grime, dubstep and squealing electro bleed into an overwhelmingly vibrant fusion, often soundtracked by ragga and grime vocalists.

Redlight's debut, The 'Lobster Boy' EP dropped in 2009, with the A-Side 'Feel So Good (Wine Up Your Body)' receiving some major support from Skream, Shy FX, Goldie, Rusko, Toddla T, Chase & Status and Jack Beats.

With Redlight's dubplates attracting the attention of the DJ A-list, it wasn't long before his next track 'Stupid' was snapped up - seeing a release in March 2010 on Shy FX's 'Digital Soundboy' Records. The original dub version was joined by a vocal version courtesy of Gorillaz & Kano collaborator Roses Gabor.

One of the biggest tracks in Redlight's unreleased arsenal was his massive 'MDMA Riddim', which following months of hype saw a release in August '09 on Chase & Status' 'MTA Records'. Once again the original instrumental version was included alongside a vocal - this time courtesy of Ms Dynamite - with the track being turned into the massive hit 'What U Talking About?!'.

Here is a link to another forthcoming Redlight banger - some calling it 'Source 16' and some 'Next Hype'. Keep an ear out for this one!

Not content with his own tracks Redlight has also been in the studio producing for other artists - including Ms Bratt ('Selecta'), Roses Gabor ('Lovesick') and Ben Westbeech ('Do It All Again').

And if that wasn't enough he has also found the time to collaborate alongside Rusko and also Toddla T (as 'Roller Express'). Busy busy busy!

If you are liking the sound of Redlight then head over to FACT Magazine to cop a free mp3 version of his remix of Breakage & The Newham General's track 'Hard', and have a listen to his Fact mix and his 5 minute mini-mix for Annie Mac's Radio 1 show:

> > > SBTRKT (DJ Set) (XL/Numbers/Young Turks) < < <

Over the last 18 months or so anonymous man of mystery SBTRKT has gained adulation and notoriety in equal measures through his expertly crafted bass-heavy UK house creations and through playing his sets behind a tribal mask! This guise has allowed the music to talk for itself which has let him build firm foundations at the core of the UK bass scene and rapidly become one of the UK's most sought after producers.

Following remixes for the likes of Modeselektor, Basement Jaxx, Underworld, J-Wow (Buraka Som Sistema), Fantastic Mr Fox and M.I.A, 2011 should see the debut SBTRKT LP coming on XL/ Young Turks (the home to The xx).
After making his Stealth debut back in July 09, we are pleased to welcome him back for what is set to be our biggest Zleep party yet!

D1 (Dub Police/Tempa) @ Girls Go Free (04/02/11)

Friday 4th February

► ► Girls Go Free @ Stealth ► ►

D1 (Dub Police/Tempa) ★

"Is D1 the most underrated dance producer in the UK? He’s certainly up there" - Fact Magazine

D1 cemented his place in dubstep’s history with a series of releases in the genre’s DMZ and Tempa dominated half-step days, with his productions featuring on the Dubstep Allstars Mix CDs (by Youngsta, Hatcha, Kode 9, N-Type, Chef & Ramadanman), the Rinse FM Mix CDs (by Skream, Spyro & Geeneus) and Caspa & Rusko's Fabriclive CD. D1's release schedule isn’t prolific, but when the 12″s drop they matter.

In 2010 he returned with a 12” for Caspa’s Dub Police label, which featured 'Jus Business’ and the brilliantly named ‘Pitcher’ (which gained support from everyone from Jack Beats to N-Type).

D1 also wrote and produced Caspa's massive hit 'Back For The First Time' (which was later vocaled Mr Hudson recieving a mountian of daytime Radio 1 plays)!

CASPA & D1 - BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME

Remixes for the likes of Buraka Som Sistema have followed, and keep your eyes peeled for a double a-side Dub Police 12" dropping in Feb - featuring the track 'Flood Of Emotions' featuring Jenna G and 'Bleeps To Broadway'.

D1 continues to push his sound forward and evolve with each and every release, and never fails to surprise! Judging on the pure quality of his recent tracks, 2011 is set to be a big year for D1.

Check out D1's mix for FACT magazine (which includes his own tracks, remixes, bootlegs and dubplates alongside the likes of Caspa, Emalkay, Subscape, The Others & Benga):

SEIJI (Bugz In The Attic) @ Stealth Vs Rescued (05/02/11)

Saturday 5th February, 2011

Stealth Vs Rescued
Every Saturday at Stealth & The Rescue Rooms
Voted 'Nottingham's Best Club Night' 2009 & 2010

with

SEIJI (Bugz In The Attic)
Seiji is the broken-beat veteran who has been making some of the toughest house music around, with his 2010 tracks 'Elevator' & 'Weedkiller' getting picked up by the likes of Diplo, Crookers, Mary Anne Hobbs & Annie Mac.

Seiji, known to his mother as Paul Dolby, is well-known for his booty-la-la-licious contributions to West London's Bugz In The Attic posse.

However, before broken beat or bruk appeared in the search engines of head-nodders worldwide, Seiji was already beat making, experimenting with U.S. style garage and proper old school drum 'n' bass.
From the age of 17 he decided to expand his repertoire of instruments, moving from cello to the world of synthesized segues and clunky midi-clocks. His first releases were on Reinforced Records, the label run by dance legends 4Hero, including this 1996 release 'Northern Exposure':

Instead of being catalogued with a fleeting genre-definition or area code, Seiji would rather be known for "simply heavy music", and after leaving Bugz in 2007, Seiji released an experimental beats album on Sonar Kollektiv, at the same time as producing & co-writing much of Roisin Murphy’s ‘Overpowered’ LP.

Riton & Seiji - Computer Juice from Joe Lea on Vimeo.

Seiji’s influence is now more keenly felt than ever, with myriad UK funky and contemporary garage producers referencing his work
, consciously and, at times, unconsciously. 2562, Shortstuff, Martyn, Untold, Bok Bok, Altered Natives, Roska, Geeneus – these are just a few of the producers who owe a significant debt to Seiji.

SEIJI 3 More of You Clip - SEIJI 3 released 21st February by Seiji

He has now returned to underground dance music, presenting his own fresh and eccentric take on bass heavy music with remixes including Toddla T, Basement Jaxx, Crookers, Florence & The Machine, Faithless, Erykah Badu and Gorillaz, and releases on Numbers, Fools Gold, Ninja Tune, Mad Decent, to name a few.

Seiji has been kind enough to offer lots of free MP3 goodies on his awesome website www.seiji.co.uk.

Also check out his mix for FACT Magazine, featuring his own tracks & remixes alongside the likes of Tim Green, Skream, SBTRKT, Todd Edwards, Greenmoney & lots more:

NETSKY (Hospital Records) @ Stealth (28/01/11)

Bursting onto the scene in 2009, there seems to be no stopping Boris Daenen (aka NETSKY) - who in less than two years has gone from Belgian bedroom beat-maker to superstar DJ and facebook heartthrob.

Rarely have we seen someone rise through the ranks this quickly, and having a Belgian passport doesn’t often turn D+B heads, so you can be sure it’s his tunes which do the talking.

With his blend of uplifting , melancholic melodies and heavy dancefloor bass & beats it wasn’t long before Netsky was well on the radar of London Elektricity and High Contrast.

Netsky signed exclusively to Hospital Records, and firmly reserved a seat at D&B’s top table with his debut long-player 'Netsky', which was released in May 2010. The album has spawned the singles 'Iron Heart', 'Escape' (featuring MC Darrison) and 'Secret Agent', plus previous singles 'Eyes Closed' and 'Memory Lane' helped further solidify his new found super-status.

Netsky - Iron Heart - Official Video from Hospital Records on Vimeo.

Remixes for the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Plan B, Underworld, Miike Snow & Pendulum have followed - and 2011 is sure to be the year that Netsky goes stratospheric.

TOMB CREW (TROUBLE & BASS)

“We’re not a band” proclaims the Myspace page, “we’re a lot”. No arguments there; they’ve been packing out stages from London to New York in matching t-shirts bearing the Tomb Crew legend for the last two years. They launch dancefloor destroying mixes of anything bass heavy – from house to kuduro and everything inbetween. As the legions of grinning converts – everyone from grime heads to indie kids – will attest, Tomb Crew are very much the inebriated and debauched sound of fun. You know what that is, right?

After remixes for the likes of French Fries, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Crookers, Marco Del Horno & Drop the Lime; and support from DJs such as Toddla T, Sinden, Brodinski, DJ Yoda, Hot Chip, Mistajam, Congorock, Doorly, Kissy Sell Out & Crookers, Tomb Crew are set to release their debut EP on New York's TROUBLE & BASS label as part of their 'Heavy Bass Champions Of The World' series.

RAMADANMAN presents PEARSON SOUND at Steath (28.01.11)

RAMADANMAN presents PEARSON SOUND

This Friday at Stealth we are pleased to welcome the man formally known as Ramadanman - the one and only PEARSON SOUND.
David Kennedy’s work as Ramadanman and Pearson Sound has been a positive scourge on the airwaves this past year. His current deviation from any kind of conventional ‘dubstep’ template hasn’t come as a shock for anyone who’s been following his career from the start - he’s always had a particular slant and a percussively textured style all of his own that’s often layered with thick and potent bass frequencies and synth washes.

2010 was a breakthrough year for Kennedy - putting out nearly ten 12-inches (on labels like Swamp81, Aus Music & Hemlock), and helping bass music forward, both through his own productions and through Hessle Audio, the label he runs with Ben UFO and Pangaea. His forthoming Fabriclive 56 mix showcases the production and DJ style that have earned him so much acclaim as of late; in addition to tracks from many of his friends and contemporaries (Appleblim, Joy Orbison, Elgato, J Kenzo, Pangaea, Addison Groove), the 30-track mix works in house and techno cuts, along with a gaggle of new productions, including three from his own Pearson Sound alias.
"It's a bit of a retrospective of some of my favourite music from 2010, and is representative of a set I would play in a club," Kennedy says. "Even though I don't play much stuff at 140BPM these days, I always like to end up at that tempo as that is the music that got me to where I am, and tracks like Sub Zero by D1 are very powerful for me because they remind me of spending time at FWD in 2006, which was so formative."

As well as his own productions he has also made remixes for the likes of Jamie Woon, MIA & Julio Bashmore:

D DOUBLE E (Newham Generals) @ Girls Go Free

Friday 4th February

► ► Girls Go Free @ Stealth ► ►

D DOUBLE E (Newham Generals/Dirtee Stank/Rinse FM) ★

"Oh My Gosh... It's D Double!!!"

D Double E is one of the grime scene's most loved MCs, known for his distinctive flow and style.
Starting out as a member of the 187 Crew (alongside previous GGF Guest Jammer), D Double was soon invited by former school friends to join the infamous 'Nasty Crew' (alongside the likes of Kano & Marcus Nasty).
2004 saw collaborations with The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Shola Ama, Kano, and not forgetting his feature on Lethal Bizzle’s Club Smash “Pow”, shooting straight in at number 11 in the UK charts.

In 2005, Double’s time with NASTY came to an end and along with fellow former member Footsie he formed the group Newham Generals, who were immediately signed to Dizzee Rascal’s label, Dirtee Stank Recordings. A world tour with Dizzee soon followed (including a show at Stealth in November '05), as well as the duo hosting a weekly slot on Rinse FM.

More recently D Double E has gained acclaim due to the Breakage produced collaboration 'Hard', and his 2010 solo smash 'Street Fighter Riddim'.

The last 12 months has seen D Double guest on the remix of P Money's anthem 'Slang Like This', and also jump on the massive 'Woo Riddim' ('Bad To The Bone') aswell as releasing the 'Bag Of Grease' EP featuring 'Like It Or Not'.

D Double E’s debut EP “Bluku! Bluku!” is scheduled for a 2011 release on Dirtee Stank Recordings.

CONGOROCK (Fool's Gold)
In the years since his 2008 Stealth debut show Congorock (aka Rocco Rampino) has lit up the world of dance music, following in the footsteps of his Italian counterparts Crookers & Bloody Beetroots.

Congorock's first EP, 'Runark', was released on A Trak's Fools Gold Records at the start of 2009, and showcased his uncanny knack for making music that is both pulverizing and funky, throwing in clever twists and production flourishes where others would be content to merely crank up the volume.

Congorock continued to surprise with his second Fool's Gold single 'Babylon', which featured atomic synthesizer blasts, jacking tribal drums and included a vocal version featuring dancehall hero Mr Lexx (the voice behind Major Lazer's "Hold The Line").

Scion A/V Presents: Congorock - Babylon from Scion A/V on Vimeo.

The track became a gigantic international hit gaining support from everyone from Diplo & Sinden to Tiesto & David Guetta, and was remixed by Steve Angelo, who loved the original so much that he insisted on getting Congorock on board to remix his Swedish House Mafia track 'One'. This remix became one of the biggest of 2010, soundtracking clubnights and festivals the world over.

The remix requests have since been coming thick-and-fast, with Congorock putting his magic touch to releases for Rex The Dog, JKF (from MSTRKRFT) and most recently Mark Ronson's 'Somebody To Love Me'.

And have a look at this little video of Tiesto (!?!) playing Congorock's remix of 'One':

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

RENAISSANCE MAN (Dubsided/Sound Pellegrino/Made To Play) ★
Renaissance Man are one of the hottest acts in House & Techno, making their name in the last few years via their trademark spaced out percussion, chopped worldly samples and chunky low end.

The duo hail from Helsinki, and their debut EP was released on Dave Taylor (Major Lazer / Switch)’s Dubsided in early 2009, followed by a release on Kitsuné Records. A subsequent EP on Parisian label Sound Pellegrino (complete with Hare Krishna-sampling track 'What Is Guru') became one of the year’s most talked-about underground hits.

Remixes for the likes of Azari & III, Crookers, Brodinski, Delphic, Harvard Bass, Crystal Fighters, Noob and previous Toybox guest Solo have followed, and last year the duo released not one but two EP's on Jesse Rose's 'Made To Play' imprint.

Their tracks have been permanent features in the sets of Annie Mac, Diplo, Jack Beats, Riva Starr, Claude VonStroke, Foamo, Tiga, Brodinski, Duke Dumont, Boy 8-Bit & Zombie Disco Squad, and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Stealth to start 2011 off with a bang!

Check out their recent mix for Paris Social Club here (featuring tracks and remixes from the likes of Justin Martin, Ramadanman, Caribou, DJ Koze, Braiden, Boys Noize, Carl Craig and Azari & III):

"In a land far far away, exists a place like no other... a place where magical beasts and wild things roam around every corner... we welcome you to a place where your mind can run wild, and your imagination will set you free..."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The team that brought you Twisted Hearts club introduces to you a new concept as wild and weird as its predecessor, and as guaranteed to shake up the very grounds of the Nottingham nightlife scene...

A party that encapsulates the wild and free spirit of a child's imagination, TOYBOX will turn a club into a dream, turning Nottingham’s Stealth into a Narnia/Secret Garden/Wonderland themed madhouse. With wild beasts and strange happenings roaming around every corner, TOYBOX is a memory that makes no sense.

WE ASK YOU TO BRING NOTHING BUT YOUR OPEN MINDS AND YOUR DANCING SHOES.

★ Advance tickets recommended: available from Alt-Tickets or Fatsoma.
