This Friday at Stealth we are looking forward to welcoming back Pete and Boggy (aka The Riotous Rockers) to warm-up for Mr Erol Alkan at dollop. The guys boast residencies at some of Europe’s top clubs, run the clubnight ‘ASBO’, and certainly know how to spot a great tune from a duff one. We managed to grab a few minutes with the guys to give us their Top 20 Tracks of 2010.

Erol Alkan is our favourite DJ here at dollop HQ, and we are very pleased to be welcoming back to play at our party :)

In his early 20s he founded the most influential clubnight of its time, ‘Trash’ in London, where he played weekly alongside the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons, Bloc Party, Peaches & Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Over the last decade the world’s dancefloors have been rocked by Erol’s remixes (for Klaxons, Hot Chip, Scissor Sisters, Alter Ego, Mylo, Bloc Party, DFA1979, Chemical Brothers & Franz Ferdinand); with Erol being voted Mixmag’s ‘DJ Of The Year’ and ‘Best International Dj’ and even being called up to support both Madonna and Daft Punk!
Erol’s label ‘Phantasy Sound’ has put out tracks from Chilly Gonzales, Riton, Primary 1, Boris Dlugosch & Late Of The Pier; and to date Alkan has acted as album producer for Late Of The Pier, Mystery Jets & The Long Blondes.
More recently he has released his collaborations with Boys Noize ‘Waves/Deathwave’ & ‘Avalanche/Lemonade’ - both of which have been picked up by the world’s top DJs.
Add to this the warped balearic psychedelic brotherhood of ‘Beyond The Wizards Sleeve’ and his work as the mysterious 'Mustapha3000'.
Until you’ve borne witness to one of his legendary DJ sets, poured headily over one of his meticulously crafted productions, or been catapulted to a sudden sonic nirvana by the dropping of one of his remixes, you might be justified for dismissing his existence as an extremely elaborate myth of the musical underground. After all, how can one man, still in his early thirties, have kept so many kids dancing for so long?

DJ MEHDI (Ed Banger) & RITON as CARTE BLANCHE this Friday

As we mentioned previously, this Friday at Stealth is dollop, and along with Kissy Sell Out's San City High room we are very pleased to bring you the hottest duo in House & Techno music - DJ MEHDI & RITON (aka. CARTE BLANCHE)!

"This is what DJ MEHDI told RITON when he invited him for a tour of the Chicago ghetto music he's been stashing for 3 years, waiting for the good moment to reveal.And this is exactly what happened: British grand master DJ and producer Riton moved in, and wanted to never leave. He loved the House, they loved the House. They got married and lived very happily during the years 2009 and 10. Their brainchild was born, everybody welcomed CARTE BLANCHE. Of course, they weren't the only ones. Ed Banger honcho Busy P snatched the mp3's that were bouncing back and forth across the Chunnel for a soon release on the label. The result? Four tracks of neck-breaking breaks, a shout-out to the masters, but with no nostalgia whatsoever. And maybe a couple of (obvious) samples, ok."

"DJ MEHDI has been foraying into all things black music since 1995. He made his international print in 2006 with the release of the LUCKY BOY album on Ed Banger, and been club-hopping worldwide ever since, touring with Justice and A-Trak, remixing Santigold and Busta Rhymes, as well as dropping his own dancefloor bombs in the name of SIGNATUNE, POCKET PIANO or I AM SOMEBODY.

Riton is Newcastle's finest, having made it from the Northern vibrations of Grand Central Recordings to being the most stable asset in the RADIO SOULWAX family and tour. His own street cred goes widescope, from remixing LCD Soundsystem and Crookers to breaking the number one spot in the Kraut Rock charts in 2008 with his EINE KLEINE NACHT MUSIK project on Modular Records. He's also a model, but you knew that already.

DJ MEHDI and RITON as CARTE BLANCHE are four decks, one mixer, and a TR 909, of course. No bangers, strictly house music."

Their debut EP on Ed Banger Records dropped back in May, and featured the tracks 'Gar Du Nord', 'Black Billionaires', 'Do Do Do' (with Kid Sister), 'In The Mix' & 'Jigga Bite'.

Since it's release the duo have remixed Chromeo, Uffie & Scissor Sisters, and had their tracks "Gar Du Nord' and 'Do Do Do' have been remixed by Green Velvet and Laidback Luke respectively. Check out a little video of their 6.45am set at Sonar festival over the summer:

BOYS NOIZE this Friday at dollop's 6th Birthday !!!

This Friday sees the 6th Birthday of dollop - and to celebrate they have called in the mighty BOYS NOIZE to headline their party alongside the likes of JD Twitch (Optimo), 16Bit, Riotous Rockers, Tomb Crew, Alvin C, and dollop resident D'lex.

Over the past 6 years dollop have been regularly putting on the hottest dance acts - with their previous Stealth events featuring the likes of Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Claude VonStroke, Simian Mobile Disco, Carl Craig, Kissy Sell Out, Digitalism, A-Trak, Friendly Fires (live), Fake Blood, Jack Beats, Late Of The Pier (live), Buraka Som Sistema & many more.

Alex ‘Boys Noize’ Ridha has released records on French label Kitsuné Music, Tiga’s Turbo Recordings label, DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo, Erol Alkan’s ‘Phantasy Sound’ & his own ‘Boys Noize’ Records.

He has remixed tracks for Tiga, Chromeo, A-Trak, Para One, Justice, Feist, Depeche Mode, Bloc Party, Siriusmo, Kaiser Chiefs, Gonzales & Snoop Dogg.
Ridha has also released EPs under the names 909d1sco, Kid Alex & PUZIQUe; produced a song for the Black Eyed Peas (‘Let The Beat Rock’); and has collaborated with Erol Alkan, putting out 2 maxi-singles, "Death Suite" / "Waves" and "Lemonade" / "Avalanche".

Boys Noize released his debut album “Oi Oi Oi” in 2007, featuring the classic tracks ‘Don’t Believe The Hype’, ‘Lava Lava’, Oh!, ‘Shine Shine’ and ‘& Down’ (which has also been featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, and was also used as a sample for Estelle’s single American Boy).
After a 2-year hiatus, Boys Noize's second studio album, entitled Power, was released to critical acclaim at the end of last year, recently being re-released featuring remixes from Mr Oizo, Djedjotronic, Tiga, Untold, Boris Dlugosch & Modeselektor.

As record label manager for ‘Boys Noize’ records, he has been discovered some of the hottest names on the scene, including Tiga, Proxy, Brodinski, Shadow Dancer, D.I.M, Feadz, Tensnake, Mixhell & Jan Driver.

And as a DJ Boys Noize reguarly headlines the biggest events & Festivals in the world – with sets coming up at Glastonbury, Exit, Benicassim, Fuji Rock, Sasquatch, Pukkelpop, SW4 & I Love Techno.

RIOTOUS ROCKERS Interview - Stealth 6th Birthday

Riotous Rockers formed after a chance meeting on the dance floor of Fabric Room One in the summer of 2003. Unbeknown to Pete and Boggy they would both meet again in their home town of Nottingham a few months later to discover they shared a mutual love of all things Electro, Pop, Disco, and Rave.

The DJ partnership was truly formed when they were given the chance to play at Nottingham's most hedonistic night, Liars Club. Mixing up as many styles as they could lay their hands on, they complimented promoter Ricky Haley's inspired bookings (which over the years has seen the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Scissors Sisters, Bloc Party and The Klaxons play long before they became household names). Riotous Rockers soon became a regular fixture at the clubnight.

Word of these explosive DJ sets travelled fast, and the Rockers found regular guest slots at the cream of UK of club land further a field, including gigs in Ibiza, Barcelona, New York, Paris and Amsterdam.

They've been djing regularly at Stealth over the past 6 years, so we thought we'd have a bit of a reminisce...

How long ago did you start djing?

Boggy (right): I've been Djing for the last 15 years.
Pete (left): About 7 years ago.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Boggy: Arthurs Theme (Caught between the moon and New York city) - Christopher Cross
Pete: A-ha – The Sun Always Shines On TV (still massive!)

And what was the last record (or track) you bought?

Boggy: Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco - Visual (Autodiscotque)
Pete: Marcos Cabral & Shux – Lifetime Groove (OTP Party Breaks)

Who were your main inspirations that got you into djing & production?

Boggy: Erol Alkan, Mickey Finn, Andy Weatherall, The Chemical Brothers, Stuart Price, Harvey, Soulwax.
Pete: Going to Clubs like 21st Century Body Rockers, Return to New York and Trash. Seeing Erol, 2many DJs, Mark Moore, Lazarus, etc. playing the most exciting music I’d ever heard.

How many records are in your collection?

Boggy: Around 4000 maybe, happily rapidly declining thanks to Ebay!
Pete: I have no idea, a few thousand I suppose. A lot of them are for sale now though.

What are your 3 most played tracks at the moment?

What do you do when you are not djing / producing?

Boggy: I'm a world class Trampoliner.
Pete: I’ve gone back to school.

What is your biggest fear?

Boggy: Black Eyed Peas / Nickelback / Kei$ha / Conservative Election win / Clumber Street / Piers Morgan / Baked Beans / Volcanic Ash during European DJ bookings!
Pete: Chris Bithell

Stealth is 6 years old this Friday. What did you do on your 6th birthday?

Boggy: I spilled the vanilla essence all over the floor at my Grandma's house. It
was gonna be used for my birthday cake.
Pete: I think I went to Twycross Zoo!

If you could pick 3 Dj's (past or present) to play at your party who would
you pick?

Boggy: Larry Levan (R.I.P), Harvey, Dexter (Avalanches), (and Michael Mayer if one pulled out!)
Pete: I-F (Clasic Italo Disco Set), Jacques Lu Cont (Back to 2004 set), Jarvis Cocker (in the other room).

What is your favourite memory of Stealth?

Boggy: So many, I can remember Djing with Felix Da Housecat years ago and it going insane when we were playing. I went to see Chromeo play live on a Thursday night, around 70 people there I think, but they were amazing. Running our own night ASBO has always been fun at Stealth guests including Hot Chip (playing live) and Fake Blood (when he was simply DJ Touché). Everytime we warm up for Erol Alkan it’s great.
Pete: So many amazing times. Some of the guests in the early days, often on the same bill; The Glimmers, The Hacker, Felix Da Housecat, Ivan Smagghe were all amazing to have on in Nottingham, also the first time Erol played was really special. Warming up for loads of my favorite DJs/producers has been an unbelievable job to have – thank you Stealth!

What tracks stand out as your favourites from your sets at Stealth (over the last 6 years)?

What has been your favourite night at Stealth (over the last 6 years)?

Boggy: When we djed with Jacques Lu Cont about 2006ish, amazing scenes absolutely mental, people on shoulders, jumping all over the shop. A DJ at the absolute height of his game.
Pete: 2many DJs on a Friday. I spent most of the gig on Matt Waites shoulders it was more like being at a gig than in a nightclub!

What has been your funniest moment in Stealth?

Boggy: The time Ricky Haley hired a ball pool for the middle of the downstairs room at Liars club. Absolute mayhem, bouncers, bar staff getting hit in the face with balls, huge night!
